The modernization of Spain in multiple fields and its complete integration into the European concert took place in the 14 years of government, between 1982 and 1996, with Felipe González, leader of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party and one of the key figures of the democratic transition. Like so many other politicians from the opposition, it was based on an ideological overload that also had a radical tone, but on it a pragmatism was superimposed on the fundamental decisions of moderate reformism. Julián García Vargas was appointed Minister of Health and Consumption, replacing Ernest Lluch in the position. A stage with lights and shadows, open with some expectations of change.
