Resigning the past to be free: ideological resemantization of the concepts colonia and patria, 1790-1830 Resumen Esta disertacion tiene como objetivo reflexionar acerca de la relacion interconceptual de los terminos “colonia” y “patria” desde la perspectiva de la historia conceptual. En el fondo, la diferencia que radica entre los conceptos de nacion y patria esta dada por un sentimiento, pero, ?como este sentimiento puede desencadenar una ideologia? Para ello, se retomara la reflexion iniciada por Annick Lemperiere sobre la cuestion colonial, los aportes historiograficos que se han hecho sobre el concepto de colonia, y una breve revision documental, a fin de intentar entretejer dichos vocablos en la configuracion del campo semantico de las revoluciones liberales americanas. Tambien, mediante un analisis hermeneutico, se pondra de manifiesto que la reflexion conceptual sobre esta resemantizacion del pasado, ocurrida durante las Independencias, es un campo abierto cuya exploracion apenas comienza. El surgimiento de los conceptos de patria y nacion se muestra como una resignificacion ideologica del pasado que recae en las pasiones, pues el concepto de nacion recoge en si, un sentido de civilidad que no genera mas que una relacion entre individuos aglomerados bajo determinados rasgos en comun. En cambio, a la patria se le ama. Patria es un concepto que si tiene la posibilidad de resignificar el pasado mientras que nacion responde mas a un concepto emergido de la razon. Palabras clave: Colonia, Conceptualizacion, Patria, Nacion, historiografia Abstract This dissertation aims to reflect on the interconceptual relationship of the terms colony and homeland from the perspective of conceptual history. At bottom, the difference between the concepts of nation and country is given by a feeling, but how can this sentiment trigger an ideology? To this end, we will return to the reflection initiated by Annick Lemperiere on the colonial question, the historiographic contributions that have been made on the concept of colony, and a brief documentary revision, in order to try to interweave these words in the configuration of the semantic field of the Liberal American revolutions. Also, through a hermeneutical analysis, it will be shown that the conceptual reflection on this resemantization of the past, occurred during the Independences, is an open field whose exploration is just beginning. The emergence of the concepts of country and nation is shown as an ideological resignification of the past that falls to the passions, since the concept of nation collects in itself a sense of civility that generates only a relationship between individuals clustered under certain traits in common. In contrast, the country is loved. Patria is a concept that does have the possibility of reframing the past while nation responds more to an emerging concept of reason.
