This study aims to analyze the brotherhoods in groups of people of African origin in Mexico City during the seventeenth century. I want to show that these associations functioned as places that rooted communities, creating alliances and providing an opportunity to organize, where elements of identity united the black population, not only due to their common origin but also because they belonged to a corporation.
