This paper summarizes the most meaningful results of a research entitled “Teaching Profile & Practice as Related to the Training of Social Workers”, which aimed to understand the theoretical and methodological elements that underpin the teaching methods of the professors entrusted with the academic training of social workers. This investigation took place at the Escuela Nacional de Trabajo Social, at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (ENTS-UNAM, in Spanish); and the Universidad delColegio Mayor de Cundinamarca in Colombia(UCMC-Colombia; in Spanish). The main results revealed outstanding similarities between both countries, highlighting the need to maintain a continuous debate in order to comprehend the origin of some discordances, as well as intensifying efforts towards the development of Contemporary Social Work.
