Abstract:

Measurement assurance is a fundamental step for healthcare processes, in terms of trust and safety. Normally, medical devices should be calibrated, according to Resolution 2003 of 2014 (Ministry of Health and Social Protection), by manufacturer requirements or indications and routine quality control. Decree 1595 of 2015 (Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism) confirms this importance, including devices for measuring, weighing and counting in a legal metrology control and inquiring assurance metrology programs regarding the performance of diagnostic fundamental equipment (eg. fetal monitors). Because of that unique and normative standards of fetal monitoring tests for estimating the measurement precision are missing, knowing the error and uncertainty is an important goal from a diagnosis quality point of view. In this paper, an approach of metrology management for the intrauterine pressure calibration in fetal monitors is presented, in order to project research opportunities oriented to promote the patient healthcare by means of decision making with minimum risk.
