Abstract:

There are currently several applications with open source software for the different areas of knowledge with its application in teaching and learning. Taking into account the large number of free tools available in the repositories that exist and their little use, lead to this research to investigate what kind of tools are applied for teaching and learning in the institutions of Middle and Vocational Education in the city of Ibague- Colombia? The methodology used in the research focused on the use of the quantitative method, with a type of descriptive research that begins with a first phase of identification and analysis of the percentage of knowledge and applicability of tools with free software in the different areas of knowledge. . The findings indicate that it is not possible to see the application of information technologies by some teachers of educational institutions, nor do they show interest in using software tools from open sources in the activities programmed for their classes, being these tools essential for the development of activities in the classroom. Based on the research carried out, it is evident that teachers require guidance, providing information to find technological information tools, in this way facilitates the development of classes and promotes the use of free software; Being thus mediator like didactic digital material that improves the quality of learning of the students.
