Abstract: The next work analyzes Alfonso Reyes’s American
thought on the development and structure of the concept of ‘American
intelligence’. Reyes develops this concept in response to his
preoccupations around the identity of the Latin American writer. His
efforts start with Visión de Anáhuac, find consolidation in A vuelta de
correo, and reach systematic conceptualization in Última Tule. This
article presents and sustains the ideas of the Mexican author concerning
the search for a Latin American culture in relation to his work and his
own construction as a writer.
