The incorporation of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in cormpany’s procesesses has become a priority. The companies that include them have managed to stand out between some others that work on a traditional way since these allow the automation of the usual processes, the availability of the information, ease the innovation and the reduction of costs; for what they turn into essential tools to improve the productivity, quality and competitiveness. In this article is exposed the optimization of the processes related to the management of the information in the educational institutions across an academic information system that allows to handle different users roles and integrated functions which uses the information related to students, teachers and administrative officers, also, different types of reports are generated. For the development of the information system the requirements, the specific needs of each and every educational institution and the regulations demanded by the Department of Education must be considered. The compilation of this valuable information turns into the first point and the first phase, immediately afterwards one will proceed to realize the analysis and the design of the system, which includes determination of interfaces, routes of navigation and planning of the database.
