This article presents part of the results of the investigation work titled Formulation strategic plan for the control of the vehicular acoustic contamination – study case Tunja, developed by the author in the mark of the program of Master of Science in Environmental Engineering, of the School of Graduate degrees of Engineering, Engineering Faculty, of the Pedagogic and Technological University of Colombia. A summary of the considerations made by the world scientific community in connection with the noise of the vehicular traffic and its impacts in the urban environment and the public health is presented, of the one which, it was obtained as result a detailed description of the effects of the noise in the human health, their symptomatology and the characteristic levels of sound pressure that generate them, concluding that the effect of the noise is an inherent condition to the growth of the urban areas and its effect on the health it is a complex variable that depends on the characteristics of the individuals that have direct and indirect contact with the willing areas for the development of the vehicular flows in the urban means.
