La nefrolitotomía percutánea es uno de los procedimientos de elección en nefrolitiasis. Debido a su notable evolución desde los años 80, cuando fue descrita por primera vez, se decidió realizar un análisis bibliométrico de la literatura médica indexada en MEDLINE con el fin de orientar nuevas propuestas de investigación en este tema. Se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica en MEDLINE utilizando GoPubmed y FABUMED, y la siguiente estrategia: «((«Percutaneous nephrolithotomy»[Title/Abstract]) AND (1983:2015[dp]))». Se obtuvieron 2.474 referencias indexadas en 331 revistas diferentes. Las revistas con mayor número de publicaciones fueron: Journal of Endourology, The Journal of Urology y Urology con 136 (5,49%), 77 (3,11%) y 73 (2,95%), publicaciones respectivamente. Los países con mayor número de publicaciones fueron Estados Unidos con 198 (8,00%) publicaciones, Turquía con 94 (3,79%), China con 93 (3,75%), India con 69 (2,78%) y el Reino Unido con 47 (1,89%). En Latinoamérica, Brasil ocupó el primer lugar con 14 (0,56%) referencias, seguido de Chile con 7 (0,28%), Argentina y México con 3 (0,12%) y Venezuela con 2 (0,08%). Colombia no cuenta con publicaciones indexadas. Se observó un patrón de aumento en el número de publicaciones por año. La investigación en nefrolitotomía percutánea se encuentra en aumento. Se observó una relación entre el índice de desarrollo de cada país y su producción científica. Hasta el momento, Colombia, nuestro país, no cuenta con ninguna publicación. Reconociendo la importancia de este tema, creemos que se hace necesario el desarrollo de nuevas propuestas y aportes investigativos en nuestro país. An increasing trend was observed in the number of publications per year. Research related to percutaneous nephrolithotomy has been increasing over time. There was a clear relationship between the development index of each country and its scientific production. So far our country, Colombia, has not published any. Recognising the importance of this topic, we believe our country needs to develop research proposals and contributions.
