Introduction: The Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) is characterized by upper-airway obstruction, defined as repeated episodes of obstructive apnea and hypopnea during sleep, together with daytime sleepiness or altered cardiopulmonary function. OSAS is a very prevalent disorder, particularly among middle-aged obese men, although its existence in women is increasingly recognized. Over the past 25 years, the prevalence of overweight and obese people in developed countries has increased at all ages, and physical activity is important to combat the sedentary lifestyle.
