Aprovechamiento de los residuos orgánicos generados en el Centro de Comercio, Industria y Turismo (CCIT) del SENA Regional Córdoba para la elaboración de compost
Organic waste is an important source of susceptible nutrients to exploitation through its transformation by biotechnological processes. Improper disposal of this waste leads to contamination problems, economic losses due to the lack of the advantages of their transformation which generates v alue-added p roducts, a d ecrease o f l andfills, leachate formation, as well as odors and greenhouse gases such as methane. The growing population of apprentices, instructors, and staff in general that carries out activities at Centro de Comercio, Industria y Turismo- CCIT, has led to an increased production of organic waste, resulting from the preparation and consumption of food and maintenance of green areas; the internal management of this waste represents an environmental problem, as well as a significant loss of biomass and nutrients. The objective of this research is to implement a pilot system for processing and using of organic waste, making efficient use of biotechnology and automated with the composter Earthgreen SAC-3000, which transforms the organic waste into compost.Along with this process, it is planned to work with SENA community to aware them about the importance of proper handling and disposal of solid waste. This qualitative descriptive research aimed to identify five main points of generation of organic waste and conducted a characterization of the same. The results showed that the organic waste comprise approximately 38% of the heavy residue. For an average of generation from organic waste from 30.33 kg/ day and an estimate of 909.99 kg/month of the 2,389.22 kg / month of solid waste generated by the center, in addition, the research group found a production of waste per capita of 0.045 kg / person / day and 0.017 kg / person / day for organic waste. The operation of the autonomous system of composting will be held at a collection center, with the objective to control and monitor the variables of the bioreactor operation, as well as the apprentices´ participation and knowledge acquisition in the productive sector. It is expected that the compost obtained from the processing of organic waste, meets the quality standards defined in the standard ICONTEC 5167 and allows its use for the fertilization of gardens and green areas of the CCIT, Moreover, it is also meant to generate a vast contribution and a social and environmental responsibility agreement with the separation and use of organic waste.
