Urban sprawl also known as suburban sprawl has become a subject of study for researchers and planners who observe the interactions between the town and the countryside trying to recognize and channel the implicit potential of the territory of the periphery.Beyond doubt, a problem of global concern known for its common and dissimilar connotations in many contexts.Thus, in English-speaking countries planners talk about urban sprawl while in Italy it translates città diffusa or dispersione urbana or France to étalement urbain, different terms from a phonetic point of view but that in any case indicate a rapid and disorderly growth of the city and its neighborhoods towards rural land.In other words, a phenomenon that occurs on the periphery of an urban area because of that implied connotation they have: being "areas of recent expansion," liable or subject to constant change.Therefore, the aim of this paper is to present the main features of Bucaramanga´s urban margins, focusing specifically on its northern limit through the identification of key processes that have sculpted this territory in order to stimulate further time planning practices land in this or other periurban contexts.
