In the first decade of the 20th century, there a reform of penal justice was issued, with the purpose of limiting the punitive power of the state in the legislature of the province of Buenos Aires. We intend to inquire into what extent that critical context in the penal system led to the challenge to strenghthen the service of the defense of poor people in criminal proceedings in the years that the conservative party dominated the political scene.
