This article develops a parallel analysis of the extended family and the consolidated informal house. These can be understood to be complex realities that are inter-dependent and in a state of permanent construction. The comparison between both structures (the social and the architectural) allows the relation between subject and object to be reflected upon, as well as the incremental estimation mechanisms that can be found between both. In order to make this comparison, the Santa María de las Lomas neighborhood in Guayaquil was studied through a quantitative analysis, from which urban maps were created that detailed the family and urban organization of the neighborhood as well as the influence that each one has on the other.
