In Mexico logistics performance has been deemed as relevant mainly in the last decade; however, the small enterprise is still not really taken into consideration in the studies on the field, in spite of being the foundation of the country’s industry and service establishments as part of the small and medium enterprises network. Small enterprises have tried to incorporate logistics management into their daily operation, but they face challenges with models that were developed for bigger industries and are alien to their operation structures, expensive, difficult to implement and/or offer solutions that cannot be materialized because of money and knowledge limitations. Besides, 65% of Mexico’s enterprises are family owned and this affects managerial decisions, something that is not reflected in the current logistics performance models. In the case of the footwear sector in Guanajuato, good logistics practices are not a standard, family and friendship relationships weigh heavily both within the enterprise and in economic terms, and there is no evidence that, out of the big-sized companies, there are serious efforts to measure logistics performance in order to improve the company’s practices. Therefore, it is important to take into account the relationship between organizational elements and logistics performance.
