espanolEste articulo tiene como objetivo analizar los mecanismos de provision y ascenso en el Cabildo Catedral de Puebla (Nueva Espana) entre 1814 y 1820, para documentar la forma en que los cambios politicos del periodo afectaron la relacion de los Cabildos Catedrales y del clero novohispano con la Monarquia Catolica. A partir de documentacion del Archivo General de Indias se argumenta que durante el periodo analizado el principal merito para acceder a una prebenda eclesiastica era la lealtad monarquica. Al mismo tiempo, muestra que en lo que toca a las provisiones capitulares, los vinculos entre los canonigos y las redes clientelares de canonigos con trayectorias similares fueron los limites del Patronato y de la fidelidad al rey durante el sexenio absolutista. EnglishThis article aims to analyze the mechanisms of promotion and advancement in the Cathedral Chapter of Puebla (New Spain) between 1814 and 1820. Doing so, it tries to document the way the political changes of the period affected the relationship between the Catholic Monarchy and the clergy and specifically, the American Cathedral Chapters. Base on files from the Archivo General de Indias, the paper argues that during the period analyzed the main merit to obtain an ecclesiastical benefice was the monarchical loyalty. At the same time, it shows that the canon networks were the empirical fact more important to limit the Patronage and the fidelity to Fernando VII in the Cathedral provisions during the absolutist regime.
