Mediante el analisis de probanzas y litigios presentados y llevados a cabo por caciques para buscar el reconocimiento de sus derechos, se muestra como quienes fueron objeto de discriminacion se convirtieron a su vez en agentes de esas mismas practicas e ideas al hacerlas parte de su representacion de si mismos. EnglishThis article studies ideas and practices surrounding inequality and discrimination in the Andes during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Through the analysis of legal disputes over the right to occupy the office of cacique and of requests submitted by caciques to obtain certification for services given to the Spanish, this study demonstrates how indigenous elites, although themselves victims of discrimination, in pursuing their own interests, became agents of discriminatory ideas and practices.
