Las armas, las letras y el compás en Milicia y descripción de las Indias. La construcción del caudillo colonial a finales del siglo XVI y principios del XVII
The thesis which argues this work is that Bernardo de Vargas Machuca, who is a colonial warlord from the end of the 16th century and beginnings of the 17th century in his work Milicia y descripcion de las Indias is aware of his autonomy and legitimacy of his actions, he was able to carry out a taxonomy about this autonomy in terms of the powers that make warlord into military leader and governor. He was as a king without a crown, because of his book was all a work to make military life of the Indias in science and place the warlord as the quintessence of the Indias. Besides Bernardo s book served as a probanza of merit and services and he enrolled, in his own ways, in this gender of writing.
