This article describes the history and development of the international recording industry between the 1999 and 2001, when Napster, an illegal and musical platform, challenged the labels’ power, until the majors have to create iTunes, a service where costumers could buy music legally. Thus, the main objective of this research will be to describe the creation of iTunes in 2001 as a result of the appearance of Napster in 1999. Also, the article will refer to the technological changes that facilitate a new model business, which was based on the commercialization of music on the Internet .
