In the university nowadays, there is an increasing questioning of the value of Social Sciences and Humanities as fundamental elements for an integrated academic development, especially when the importance of including courses entitled "humanistic" or "complementary" in the curriculum was reviewed. This article presents the results of a study based on three supplementary questions related to: what is taught (Content), how it is taught (Methodology), and why it is taught (the purpose of teaching Social Sciences and Humanities in the university. The study was conducted with some students and teachers from the faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences, Economics and Engineering at the University of Ibague in order to identify what they thought about this specific area for the training of university students. The identification and analysis of conceptions about teaching were conducted using a qualitative approach. Data from surveys, interviews, classroom observations and a documentary review of some syllabi were triangulated. With the publication of the results of this research, the researchers hope to provide an input for curriculum review processes, in order to improve the quality and relevance of teaching these disciplines, aimed at supporting the integrated development of future professionals.
