A soil monitoring network using a wireless communications system was designed and implemented at a sugarcane plantation located in the department of Valle del Cauca, Colombia. This hybrid system, based on the ZigBee standard and mobile communication technologies, combined the most appropriate features to collect and display data recorded by sensors and stored in dataloggers, forming a most versatile network.
