Ernesto Laclau develops a research program that aims at explaining political phenomena as articulatory practices that structure collective identities. Discourse fteory, as social ontology and research methodology for Politics, highlights the antagonistic nature of historical-cultural processes during the production of meanings and senses that shape social field. By reviewing the sources that inspire the Argentinean philosopher to develop his proposal, it is concluded that discourses are established through a hegemonic dynamic that recognizes the contingent and antagonistic nature of every discourse. In the end, Discourse fteory is applied to the Colombian context, more precisely to the signifier “peace” during the 2014 Presidential Elections. It is argued that “peace” made possible the unification of different parties due to its semantic indeterminacy as empty signifier.
