This article is a result of the recent increase in interest in the field of Spanish as a Foreign Language (SFL) in the city of Bogotá. For this reason, a study was carried out in order to bring the state of the art in SFL in Bogotá up to date. The research question had to do with asking about how SFL started and its development. The article includes a brief description of the universities which offer teacher education programs in the teaching and learning of SFL and an overview of the current courses offered by some universities in the city. Finally there are some considerations about the limitations and projections of SFL programs in Bogotá.
