This paper aims to provide some ideas which constitute a valid methodological framework for the study of the history of the Spanish language. It also presents a reflection on different corpora that can be used for this study and the advantages of archive documentation for this purpose. In addition, the paper describes the current state of the art of the history of Colombian Spanish, and some researches which should be conducted in the future are noted.
