This research aims to assess the Corporate Social Responsibility –CSR– in a Colombian official institution, such as Ecopetrol from 2009 to 2010, which reflects a well-recognized strategic positioning at national level and also has become a paradigm of CSR management to the extent that addresses comprehensively its mission and vision against other organizations with analogous outlook. Organizations focused strategically upon CSR achieve competitive advantages, both internally (employees, suppliers, executives) and externally (social environment, other organizations, public institutions.) The mix research focus offers both a qualitative and a quantitative description related to categories and subcategories of analysis from a basic theory with a case study methodology. As a relevant finding we find new rooms related to human rights and an on-going open-door improvement for women in positions where accountability is demanded.
