This article provides an overview of the bibliography on the history of the Church in Colombia over the last 50 years, with a particular emphasis on recurring and salient themes, and on the methodological approaches adopted. To introduce this explanation, the author explains the framework of Colombian national historiography, and the place Church history occupies within this, as well as the background to the latent tension noted from 1976 onwards between traditional approaches to writing history and contemporary historiographical trends.
