The aim of this paper is examine the particular activities that characterized the principal group of the New Kingdom of Granada's inhabitants dedicated to the production of texts: the lettre ecclesiastics. We center our regard especially in those who i nhabited Santafe a nd i ts environments. Examples of the circulation of their textual production, in both print and manuscript, are analyzed; the importance of the universities in this community's constitution as a corps is signaled, and some conditions of its labor market are reviewed. Also, we try to characterize this community as formed by lettres and not writers.
