PURPOSE: The Barriers to Being Active Quiz (BBAQ)-21item scale that provides a measure of 7 self-reported barriers to being physically active. The test was translated into Spanish by the team that developed its English original version, but it lacks of the necessary validity assessment studies. The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of BBAQ (version-21- items), focusing on the reliability and validity. METHODS: A total of 2.364 (1.462 female and 1.172 male; age 18-30 years) university students completed the questionnaire BBAQ-21 ítems. Cronbach alpha were calculated to assess the internal consistency. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) and proportion of agreement were computed to assess the stability of the two test scores, with a period of 7 days between the two administrations. An exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory (CFA) was used to analyze the validity of BBAQ-21 items. RESULTS: The Cronbach alpha coefficient is 0.83. The reliability scores of the BBAQ-21 item were moderate (ICC range 0.46-0.87). The proportion of agreement for all individual items ranged from 45-80%. A 4-factor solution emerged for each scale explained 52.90% of the variance and CFA showed moderate factor loadings. CONCLUSIONS: It appears to have moderate reliability and reproducibility. The BBAQ-21 is available to assess the barriers to physical activity in Latin America.
