In this article, I seek to establish the philosophical contribution of Origen to the idea of the free and responsible nature of the moral agent in De principiis III, 1. I will first show the global character of the freedom question in Origen. Second, I will provide an analysis of the phenomenological arguments found in De Principiis in order to establish the need for free will and its constitutive link with the idea of non-transferable responsibility.
