This article presents an epistemological framework to identify and differentiate the various artifacts resulting from research in design disciplines. To do this, first the differences and similarities between the way of reasoning of science and design will be established. Second, the possible types of research that can result from design disciplines will be presented. Thirdly, artifacts resulting from these types of research with their respective scope and, finally, a specific type of prototype to evaluate the results of research from design disciplines will be proposed and discussed.
