A descriptive study with a mixed approach (quantitative-qualitative) is focused on characterizing different strategies used by Colombian universities to promote access, continuity and graduation of high performance student-athletes.For this, an email was sent with a questionnaire to the university Welfare Directors of different Colombian universities.A relevant finding shows that despite of having a regulatory framework and missionary principles, Colombian universities are not yet committed with actions which support the academic performance of high performance athletes in a clear and convincing way.Although Colombian IES (Spanish initials for Higher Education Institutions) assume support costs managed by the university welfare department to athletes students; this support does not fully cover athletes students' needs.
