RESUMEN Con la reforma en el sector salud puesta en marcha a traves de la Ley 100 de 1.993 se generaron cambios sustanciales en el manejo del sistema. Uno de los aspectos que ha desatado un gran numero de investigaciones ha sido el aseguramiento, ya que se pretendia la cobertura total de la poblacion para el ano 2.001 y al no lograr dicha meta se han buscado las causas y los posibles puntos de mejoramiento de la estrategia. Por medio de esta revision de las investigaciones se pretende aportar una vision clara de la situacion del aseguramiento en salud en Colombia entre 1.996 y 2.005. Por lo tanto se presentan los resultados obtenidos de dicha revision, los puntos de discusion, las conclusiones y las recomendaciones.
