The celebration of National Holidays has been a regular element of the establishment of national imaginaries. Bearing this in mind, the aim of the paper is to identify the uses, abuses and oblivions that the Colombian Government and the people of Colombia have had during the commemoration of the Colombia Bicentennial. therefore, by adopting an interpretative and comparative approach based on different sources the paper is structured around the idea of a struggle between the history known as official and those elements of memory that have been forgotten or silenced. Furthermore, according to E. Jelin there is even a tendency to mobilize such a struggle during relevant holidays.
