Objetivos: El presente articulo evidencia los resultados independientemente mas relevantes de dos estudios similares realizados por dos institucionales universitarias que forman a este tipo de profesional, donde su intencion fue determinar las condiciones academicas, desempeno profesional y ocupacional en el area de la instrumentacion quirurgica en Colombia.Metodo: Los dos estudios aplicaron instrumentos de recoleccion de datos como la encuesta efectuada a los profesionales de esta disciplina a nivel nacional, que se desempenan en diferentes areas ocupacionales, a empleadores y se hizo una revision sistematica de los diferentes planes de estudio.Resultados: La condicion legal en el area de instrumentacion quirurgica se ha venido transformando desde un conocimiento empirico, pasando por una formacion tecnica y tecnologica hasta conseguir el reconocimiento del ejercicio profesional. Se observa un avance sobre los campos de accion debido a la necesidad de incursionar en otras areas diferentes a la asistencia. Tambien se han renovado los curriculos academicos para asi poder brindar nuevas oportunidades y herramientas a los futuros profesionales.Conclusiones: El analisis de los datos arrojo informacion que facilito comprender el contexto actual del profesional, la exploracion de nuevos campos ocupacionales conducentes a las tendencias en la formacion de este talento humano en salud y el conocimiento de la legislacion mostro la identificacion de agremiaciones que le permiten la libre asociacion y que velan por el bienestar en el ambito laboral.AbstractObjectives: This article shows the independent and the most outstanding results of two studies that are similar and that were carried out by two university institutions that teach the Surgical Instrumentation career. The aim of these studies was establishing the academic conditions, professional and occupational performance of these professionals in the national arena of Surgical Instrumentation.Method: The two studies used data collection tools such as the survey which was conducted with the professionals in this area nationwide and that are employed in different fields of this profession. The survey was applied with employers as well, and a systematic review of the syllabus was carried out.Results: The legal situation in the field of surgical instrumentation has undergone a transformation starting with empirical knowledge, then advancing to technical and technological instruction up to reach a professional stand. It is also observed improvements in the fields of action due to the growing need to break into other areas apart from assistance. The syllabus has been renewed in order to provide new tools and opportunities for the future professionals.Conclussions: The analysis of the data provided useful information to understand the current professional context of the surgical assistants, and a way to explore new occupational fields and trends for the instruction of this human talent in health, as well as knowledge in related legislation, and identified the organizations that work in behalf of the profession to improve wellbeing and working conditions.
