In this work we establish new results about the existence ofsmooth, explicit families of periodic traveling waves for themodified and fourth-order Benjamin-Bona-Mahony equations. We alsoprove, under certain conditions, that these families arenonlinearly stable in the energy space. The techniques employedmay be of further use in the study of the stability of periodictraveling-wave solutions of other nonlinear evolution equations.
