The exploratory objectives of the Baja Guajira Basin have been Tertiary units because they have historically presented significant results; it has been shown that the Tertiary et al., 1998). The identification of these lithologies in reflection seismic data in regions where no well data is available is a high risking activity in exploration, because of the uncertainty created by other lithologies or pore fluid that may have identical seismic characteristics. The following study is aimed to develop a methodology that help to reduce the risk in the identification of carbonated lithologies, attributes such as quadrature amplitude, instantaneous phase and frequency were used, and allow the recognition of the carbonates in observed trends on cross‐plot of seismic attributes.
