This study presents a model in which based on the recognition and strengthening of cognitive system processes, contributing to the refinement and deepening of knowledge and encourages the improvement of reading comprehension of the texts used in the university context. Since the proposal of Robert Marzano (1992) who proposes the development of five basic dimensions of thought and based on the third one, that is, extend and refine the knowledge, intended to enable students to work with all types of information and generate new forms of learning.The proposal generated from the diagnostic detection of the most common problems students the first semester of Social Work from the Universidad Public - consists of eight workshops to develop both theory and practice the dimensions of thought and strategies to promote reading comprehension in direct relation to the course Psychology I.The action research approach used in the proposal involves 25 courses, who attended the instructions, read, develop and evaluate the workshops and answered a semi structured interview. Their performances are from different categories: planning, detection of difficulties and problems, evaluation and adaptation of strategies.
