Introduccion: la desalineacion postural es el resultado de varios factores tales como la adopcion de mala postura, manejo inadecuado de objetos, obesidad, sedentarismo, tensiones y muebles inadecuados, entre otros. Objetivo : realizar descripcion de las alteraciones posturales en una comunidad escolar en Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. Metodologia: estudio de corte transversal con la totalidad de la poblacion escolar de una institucion educativa seleccionada a conveniencia. Participaron 242 escolares. A traves de un examen fisico postural por observacion, segun planos anatomicos con linea de plomada en las vistas anterior, posterior y lateral, se califico la postura global del alumnado y se identificaron las alteraciones posturales. Resultados: los escolares tenian entre cinco y 17 anos de edad. Mayor numero de sexo masculino (60%) que femenino (40%). Las alteraciones posturales mas frecuentemente observadas en los miembros inferiores fueron pie supino y rodilla varu, estando presentes en todos los estudiantes. Un tercio de estudiantes tenian elevacion de la pelvis derecha. Siete de cada diez tenian pie abductus. El 51% de los estudiantes presentaba cifosis, 48% lordosis, 17% escapula alada y 54% desviacion del tronco a la derecha. Conclusion: fue elevada la presencia porcentual de diversas alteraciones posturales en ninos escolarizados, para el correcto enfoque de esas cifras se debe promover el desarrollo de experticia entre los fisioterapeutas que trabajan en prevencion y tratamiento de las alteraciones posturales. SUMMARY Introduction: postural misalignment is the result of several factors such as the adoption of poor posture, mishandling of objects, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, stress and the lack of ergonomic furniture, among others. Objective: to describe the postural alterations in a school in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. Methodology: this cross-sectional study evaluated the entire student population of a school. There were appraised 242 students. It was performed a physical examination and a plumb line was used to assess the deviation in the anterior, posterior, and lateral view of the anatomical planes in order to identify postural abnormalities. Results: the students were between five to 17 years old, being 60% male and 40% female. The most frequently observed postural abnormalities in the lower limbs were genu varum and supinator foot, being presented in all students. One-third of students had right hip elevation, 70% had metatarsus adductus, 51% had kyphosis, 48% had lordosis, 17% winged scapula and 54% had dextroscoliosis. Conclusion: There was a high prevalence of several postural alterations in school children. The proper approach for these anomalies requires to promote the development of expertise among physiotherapists working in prevention and treatment of postural changes.
