This article studies two Colonial celebrations: the Jura de los Reyes and the Paseo del Pendon Real. The main purpose is demonstrate that the convention/ protocol that was observed in these two celebrations, prevailed in the civic commemorations of Independence during the 1820’s in the city of San Luis Potosi, Mexico. New Spain colonial vestiges are perceptible in the festivities of the new nation.
