To describe a new indirect sign of aortic coarctation. The presence of this sign, hyperechogenicity of the ascending aorta was assessed. We analyse our database with 2567 cases of congenital anomalies between 2003 to February of 2014. The diagnosis of CoA was made if direct and indirect sings in fetal echocardiography were found. Fetuses with diagnosis of CoA were identified and reviewed the fetal echocardiography searching the hyperechogenicity of the ascending aorta. We reviewed the postnatal echocardiogram with the confirmation of the diagnosis. 52 cases were diagnosed with CoA with postnatal confirmation. We exclude the cases with out postnatal confirmation. For all the cases we reviewed the fetal echocardiogram and specifically the out flow tract of the left ventricle. In 41/52 (78%) cases there were found hyperechogenicity of the ascending aorta. An important proportion of cases with prenatal diagnosis of coarctation of the aorta was detected the hyperechogenicity of the ascending aorta. This should be considered an additional indirect sign of CoA, this sing could be an other important ultrasound finding in fetal echocardiography for improve the prenatal diagnosis of CoA.
