Resumen. Recientes hallazgos arqueológicos y la obtención de fechas de C14 para piezas pertenecientes a colecciones de museo han permitido corroborar la existencia de metalurgia en el periodo Herrera de la Cordillera Oriental de Colombia, cambiando drásticamente las ideas preexistentes sobre el origen de esta industria en la región. Se presentan los rasgos generales de dos hallazgos de metalurgia en contextos tempranos y se describen las características formales y tecnológicas de losobjetos fechados.Abstract. Recent archaeological finds and new C14 dates for museum objects have enabled us to corroborate the existence of metallurgy in the Herrera Period of the Eastern Cordillera in Colombia, drastically changing pre-existing ideas about the origin of this industry in the region. The general characteristicsof two finds of metallurgy in early contexts are presented and the formal and technological traits of the dated objects are described.
