SUMMARY Objective: In order to evaluate influences of beliefs, attitudes, and subjective norms related to the exercise of sexual and reproductive rights in adolescent students from Jamundi, Departamento (= State) del Valle del Cauca, Colombia an investigation was carried out. Methods: Design included time series with paired samples. A psychometric scale was applied to 128 adolescent students before an educative intervention as well as three and six months after the scale application. It was possible to observe that both sexes positively modified almost all of their intentions, attitudes and subjective standards related to sexual and reproductive rights. Results: Significant changes were found in relation to (a) consulting health professionals about contraceptive methods; (b) the use of contraceptive techniques in sexual intercourse; (c) any form of sexual abuse and sexual violence had decreasing rates; and (d) there were several adolescent of both sexes who decided not having sexual relations. Conclusions: These results can be considered as protective factors in front of risks arising from sexual activity without responsibility. It’s possible to conclude that an educative intervention about integral sexual and reproductive health focused on empowering adolescents toward their sexual and reproductive rights, may modify positively intentions, attitudes and perceptions of sexuality. This experience becomes a very useful example to be implemented in middle educational institutions as a support to the National Policy of Sexual Education in Colombia.
