Resumen Durante las ultimas cuatro decadas es notable la proliferacion de novelas historicas en America Latina. Estas novelas historicas contemporaneas han venido transformando la tendencia tradicional del genero al emplear la ficcion para cuestionar el pasado historico. Uno de los hechos privilegiados en tal lectura critica ha sido el del Descubrimiento de America. Sobre este topico, presentado a traves de las experiencias de Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca, versa la novela El largo atardecer del caminante (1992) de Abel Posse, obra sobre la cual se reflexiona en este articulo a partir de dos ejes: la escritura y la otredad. Abstract The appearance of historic novels in Latin America along the last four decades has been notorious. These contemporary historic novels have been changing the traditional trend of this gender by using fiction to question the historical past. One of the facts which has been favored in such a reading is the Discovery of America. The novel El largo atardecer del caminante (1992) by Abel Posse deals with this topic, presented through the experiences of Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca, work which this article analyzes, based on two axes: writing and otherness.
