This paper presents the general guidelines for approaching practicums in the process of training social workers, in order to outstrip activism and to transcend theoretical positions about society; this will allow professionals to raise their academic ambitions, to fulfill their ethical obligation with society–in a more responsible and less intuitive manner–, and to create knowledge about micro- and meso- social matters. The text begins with abrief discussion on the separation of theory and professional work; then, it presents Pierre Bourdieu's theoretical concepts, which offer a more complete vision of the potential scenarios for professional practicum; finally, all those elements that social work would be required to question and build in its relation with human groups will appear.
