Summary A lognormal diffusion process recently has been applied to the economic development of India by Tintner and Patel (1965, 1966). A similar process can be suitably applied to growth in the yields of agricultural crops in India in consideration of the vital role played by stochastic elements in the phenomenon. The influence of irrigation and fertilizers on yield is also considered.
