The study addresses the use and knowledge of contraceptive methods among adolescent students in tenth and eleventh grades of Puerto Tejada (Cauca, Colombia). It is a descriptive study involving 622 students which uses a proportionate stratified cluster sampling technique, through an anonymous self report survey. The knowledge of modern methods of contraception such as the pill, condoms and injectables with significant differences between genders is predominant. Mainly are the parents 54.2%, boyfriend and / or girlfriend 32.4%, who provide information to the pupils. The most used methods are condoms and injectables, 44.5% is unaware of the institutions that provide guidance on the use of contraception, and only 6.4% who uses the contraception methods attends a medical supervision in a health institution. In adolescence, exploring sexuality is a reality that requires guidance and encouraging behaviors that lessen the potential risks of pregnancy and acquiring sexually transmitted diseases.
