Total cross sections for resonance charge transfer between H(1s) and H+calculated by using a two-state orthonormal basis with static variable charge

Abstract:

The total cross sections for resonant capture of electrons from atomic hydrogen by protons is calculated for energies from 0.1 to 50 keV and compared with the measured cross sections and other theoretical calculations. The impact parameter Schrodinger equation is solved using an expansion in a two-state orthonormal basis constructed with travelling 1s atomic orbitals in which the static charge seen by each orbital is allowed to vary with the internuclear distance.
