Abstract Tape-casting materials based on the PMN compound have been prepared and characterized. PMN was prepared by columbite route. PbO excess was added to compensate the PbO volatilization loss. Slips for tape-casting were prepared from a non-aqueous PMN systems. The sintering temperature range was 950°-1100°C, and no PbO buffer was used. For comparison pressed bodies were also sintered in the same temperature range. Microstructure of fresh fracture surfaces in both films and ceramic bodies were studied by SEM technique. Dielectric measurements were performed at room temperature and in the - 150° to 150°C temperature range.
