Abstract Ceramic materials based on BaTiO3-modified PZN compound have been prepared and characterized. The powder synthesis was conducted by solid state reaction between ZnNb2O6 and PbO. Sintering of compact and tape-casting films was carried out in the 950-1100°C range. Effect of PbO excess was evaluated respect to the pyrochlore formation. The density values were > 95% Dth. Microstructures were rather homogeneous and fine-grained. Dielectric measurements were performed between −100 and 150°C for different frecuencies. The results were related to the microstructure and sintering parameters.
